Going Overboard is a 1989 comedy film directed by Valerie Breiman. The film follows the story of a young comedian named Shecky Moskowitz (Adam Sandler) who dreams of making it big in the world of stand-up comedy. Shecky is struggling to make ends meet, and when he hears about a job opening on a cruise ship, he jumps at the opportunity.
Despite the fact that Shecky is only hired to be a waiter, he manages to sneak his way into the talent show. With the help of his friend and fellow comedian (Scott LaRose), Shecky puts together an act that he hopes will win over the audience and launch his career.
However, things don't go as planned when a rival comedian (Peter Berg) starts to steal the spotlight. Shecky must fight to prove himself and win over the audience before it's too late.
The film features a number of other comedic actors, including Billy Zane, Milton Berle, and Burt Young. Despite the star-studded cast and promising premise, the film was a critical and commercial failure.
Going Overboard is notable for being Adam Sandler's first starring role in a feature film, and it remains a cult classic among his fans. While the film may not have helped Sandler launch his career, it did pave the way for his future success in Hollywood.
