The film Godzilla vs. Mothra (also known as Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth) was released in 1992 and is the fourth movie in the Heisei series of Godzilla films.
The plot of the movie centers around the appearance of Battra, a dark kaiju (monster) that is essentially the evil counterpart to Mothra. Battra is fomented by the Earth itself in order to seek vengeance on humanity for its mistreatment of the planet, and it begins to cause destruction throughout Japan.
The Cosmos, two tiny fairy-like creatures who are revealed to be the guardians of the Earth, are aware of the situation and call upon Mothra to help fight Battra. Mothra is initially reluctant to become involved, but the Cosmos plead with her to help save the planet.
Things become complicated when Godzilla, who is also drawn to the conflict, enters the fray. Despite being an enemy to both Mothra and Battra, he ultimately decides to fight them both, leaving humanity caught in the middle of a three-way battle.
Throughout the movie, the story explores themes of environmentalism and the need for balance between humanity and nature. There are also elements of mythology and mysticism, particularly in the representation of the Cosmos and their connection to the planet.
In the end, Mothra is able to defeat Battra and convince Godzilla to leave peacefully, restoring order to the Earth.
