The movie God's Little Acre is based on the novel of the same name by Erskine Caldwell. It follows Ty Ty Walden (played by Robert Ryan), a poor Georgia cotton farmer who becomes fixated on finding gold that his grandfather is said to have buried on their land.
Ty Ty's obsession with the gold consumes him, causing him to neglect his farming duties and neglect his family. His wife, Willadee (played by Tina Louise), becomes increasingly frustrated with his behavior and starts to question their marriage.
Meanwhile, Ty Ty's sons, Buck (played by Jack Lord) and Shaw (played by Vic Morrow), are struggling with their own problems. Buck is unemployed and turns to petty crime to make ends meet, while Shaw is having an affair with his brother's wife.
As tensions rise within the family, outsiders also become interested in the supposed gold on the Walden farm. A group of men led by Pluto Swint (played by Aldo Ray) start digging in the fields, causing chaos and confusion.
The film is notable for its frank depiction of sexuality and violence, as well as its portrayal of rural poverty and economic struggle in the 1950s American South. It received mixed reviews upon its release, but has since become a cult classic.
