God of Gamblers III: Back to Shanghai is a 1991 Hong Kong action-comedy film directed by Wong Jing. The movie is a part of the God of Gamblers series and follows the story of Tai-Kun, who gains his ESP powers back and seeks revenge against Sing, the Saint of Gamblers.
As Tai-Kun and his disciples exert their full ESP powers against Sing, the spacetime becomes distorted and sends both of them back in time to Shanghai in 1937. There, they meet Sing's grandfather Chow Tai Fook, who is working for the underground resistance movement against the Japanese military forces.
Sing also meets the wealthy Ding Lik, who is being targeted by his enemies, and falls in love with one of the twin sisters whom Ding Lik is protecting. Meanwhile, Tai-Kun is determined to get revenge against Sing by defeating him in gambling, but he soon realizes that there are more important things than winning.
As they try to find a way back to their own time, Sing and Tai-Kun become involved in various gambling and action-packed situations, including a high-stakes gambling game against the Japanese military leaders. They also discover the identity of the mysterious "Comment allez-vous," who defeated the French "God of Gamblers," Pierre Cashon.
With the help of his friends and family, Sing must try to protect his loved ones and defeat his enemies while finding a way to return to his own time. The movie features a star-studded cast, including Stephen Chow, Gong Li, Ng Man-Tat, and Andy Lau.
