Girls of the White Orchid is a drama film directed by Jonathan Kaplan. The story follows Carol, a young waitress and aspiring singer in Los Angeles, who is lured to Tokyo with the promise of a job opportunity at the White Orchid nightclub. However, she soon discovers that the club is a front for a prostitution ring run by the Yakuza.
Desperate and alone, Carol is taken under the wing of a kind-hearted Yakuza member named Shiro, who helps her navigate the dangerous world of the club. But Carol is soon forced to confront the harsh reality of her situation as she is pressured by the club's managers, Madame Mori and her husband Hatanaka, to engage in sexual acts with clients.
As she struggles to survive in this foreign and dangerous environment, Carol forms a bond with Shiro, but must constantly be on guard as she tries to find a way to escape and return home. The film explores themes of sexual exploitation, power struggles, and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. Girls of the White Orchid is a poignant and thought-provoking depiction of a young woman's fight for survival in a world where hope seems lost.
