Ginger and Brigitte are fascinated with death and morbidly expressing themselves through horror movies and staged death scenes. They are outcasts at school, and their macabre interests attract the attention of Sam (Kris Lemche), a drug dealer, and wildlife enthusiast.
On the night of a full moon, Ginger is attacked by a mysterious creature while out exploring, and it disappears leaving her in a state of shock. When her wounds begin to heal miraculously and she becomes more and more aggressive, the sisters discover that Ginger has been infected with a werewolf virus.
As Ginger's transformation progresses, Brigitte tries desperately to find a cure, while Sam offers his expertise and assistance. But as Ginger's desires become more animalistic and primal, the sisters' relationship is tested and they must decide between their loyalty or their survival.
Ginger Snaps was critically acclaimed for blending the horror genre with a coming-of-age story, highlighting themes of puberty, adolescence, and sisterhood. The film also spawned two sequels, Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed and Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning.
