Young Johnny Blaze is a stunt cyclist who lives with his father, Barton Blaze, in a traveling carnival. When Barton is diagnosed with cancer, Johnny makes a deal with the devil, Mephistopheles, to save his father's life. However, the devil betrays Johnny, and Barton dies in a stunt accident soon after his miraculous recovery.
