Gattaca is a science fiction film that takes place in the future where genetics play a big role in society. Vincent is born as an In-Valid, meaning that his genes are not considered superior and therefore he is discriminated against and limited in his future prospects. He is frequently bullied and discriminated against, even by his own family.

Vincent's dream is to work for Gattaca Aerospace Corporation, a company that sends humans to space. However, because of his genetic inferiority, he does not have the opportunity. He becomes determined to achieve his dream and with the help of a former Gattaca employee, Jerome Eugene Morrow, they switch identities. Jerome gives Vincent his identity to pass the tests required to work at Gattaca, while Vincent receives Jerome's genetic identity to fool the corporation's in-house DNA sequencing.

Once he is hired, he meets Irene, a fellow employee who becomes romantically involved with him. However, when one of Vincent's colleagues is found murdered, he realizes that his old genetic identity could ruin everything he has worked for as DNA scanners have been implemented in order to track down the killer. The authorities are closing in on him, and time is running out.

Vincent's struggle throughout the film is that people around him, even those he is closest to, view him as a lesser human because of his genetic destiny. Gattaca is a compelling story about the dangers of embracing eugenics and the importance of breaking free from the constraints of societal expectations.
