Gantz is a live-action adaptation of Hiroya Oku's manga series of the same name. The film follows two high school students, Kei Kurono (played by Kazunari Ninomiya) and Masaru Kato (played by Kenichi Matsuyama), who die in a train accident while attempting to help a drunk man who had fallen onto the tracks. They awaken in a mysterious, featureless room dominated by a black orb known as the Gantz.
Gantz informs them that they have been selected to participate in a "game" in which they must hunt down and kill aliens hiding on Earth within a set time limit. Gantz equips them with high-tech, near-indestructible suits and weapons and sends them out into the city to complete their mission.
As Kurono and Kato embark on their deadly new mission, they begin to encounter other humans who have also been drafted into the game, including the beautiful Kei Kishimoto (played by Natsuna Watanabe). The group must work together to overcome the many challenges and obstacles they face both within and outside of the game, all while struggling to come to grips with their newfound circumstances and the moral implications of their actions.
