F/X2 is a 1991 action-thriller film directed by Richard Franklin and starring Bryan Brown, Brian Dennehy, and Rachel Ticotin. The movie is a sequel to the 1986 film F/X and continues the story of Rollie Tyler, a special effects expert who has retired from his life of making illusions for movies and now runs a toy-making business.
The story begins when Rollie's ex-girlfriend Kim's ex-husband Mike, who is a cop, asks Rollie to help him catch a killer. Rollie agrees, and together they set up an elaborate ruse to capture the killer. However, things go awry when an unknown person kills both the killer and Mike.
Despite evidence pointing to the killer being responsible, Rollie knows it was someone else. When Mike's boss, Silak, tries to push the blame onto the dead killer, Rollie realizes that Silak is involved in Mike's death and enlists the help of Leo McCarthy, a former cop who worked with Rollie in the previous film and is now a private investigator.
Together, Rollie and Leo follow the clues and uncover a complex conspiracy involving corrupt cops, a rogue government agency, and a powerful businessman. Along the way, they use their expertise in illusion and deception to outsmart the bad guys and finally bring them to justice.
F/X2 is a thrilling and suspenseful movie that showcases the creative use of special effects and imaginative storytelling. It is a worthy sequel to the original film, with strong performances from the cast and impressive direction from Richard Franklin.
