Leela becomes very upset after being insulted by a group of space-rednecks. In an effort to regain her sense of pride, she decides to participate in a demolition derby with the Planet Express ship. Despite the ship being badly damaged, Leela manages to win the derby.
While the crew is celebrating their victory, the Professor discovers that the ship's fuel gauge has been severely damaged in the derby. He realizes that the cost to repair the gauge will be exorbitant and that the crew will have to face a huge expense when they have to fill the Dark Matter pump.
Desperate to find an alternative to Mom's overpriced starship fuel, the crew sets out on a quest through a fantasy-land that is inspired by The Lord of the Rings. They hope to locate an alternative fuel source that will break Mom's stranglehold on the market.
As the crew navigates through the fantastical world, they encounter a range of unusual creatures and challenges. However, they eventually find the alternative fuel source that they are looking for and return to Earth to refuel the Dark Matter pump.
Despite facing numerous obstacles, the crew is able to successfully break Mom's monopoly on starship fuel, thereby saving the Planet Express business from financial ruin.
