Tommy Fawkes is the son of a famous British comedian named George Fawkes who passed away years ago. Despite his father's legacy, Tommy has not been able to succeed in the comedy world. His Las Vegas debut is a disaster, and he is left feeling discouraged and disillusioned.
In search of inspiration, Tommy returns to his hometown of Blackpool, where his father began his career and where Tommy spent his childhood summers. He seeks out his father's old friends, including a retired comedian named Jack Parker, who was once George's partner on stage.
As he reconnects with his past, Tommy begins to develop a new comedy routine that draws on his memories and experiences in Blackpool. However, he struggles to get his material noticed by the local comedy scene, which is dominated by performers who rely on hackneyed jokes and formulaic routines.
Along the way, Tommy forms relationships with people who are trying to help him, including a woman he meets at the local amusement park named Patsy who has a fascination with death and a young comedian named Jack who is desperate to impress him.
As Tommy's big break approaches, he must confront the demons that have held him back in the past and find the courage to perform in front of a skeptical audience. With the help of his new friends, he discovers the true power of comedy and the importance of being true to oneself in order to achieve success.
