Fullmetal Alchemist is a 2017 live-action adaptation of the popular Japanese manga and anime series of the same name. The story follows two brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, who live in a world where alchemy is a highly respected form of science and magic.
After their mother dies, the brothers attempt to use alchemy to bring her back to life, but the attempt goes horribly wrong. Edward loses his left leg, while Alphonse's entire body is lost. The movie stays relatively faithful to the original story, but condenses and streamlines some of the plot elements for the sake of pacing. The visual effects are impressive, particularly in the portrayal of Alphonse's armored form and the various displays of alchemical power. Overall, Fullmetal Alchemist is a thrilling and emotionally resonant adventure that will appeal to fans of the original series as well as newcomers to the franchise.
