French Twist is a French comedy-drama film released in 1995. The movie centers around Loli, a traditional housewife who discovers that her husband Laurent is having an affair with a man. Hurt and confused, Loli decides to leave Laurent but is unsure of how to raise their two young children on her own.
Enter Marijo, a free-spirited and sexually adventurous woman who makes a living driving her van from town to town. Loli invites Marijo to stay with them, and the two women begin to bond. Over time, their relationship grows more intimate, and they become lovers.
As Loli and Marijo's romance blossoms, tension between them and Laurent also grows. Initially, Laurent is shocked and angered by his wife's new relationship, but he eventually develops feelings for Marijo as well, complicating the dynamic between the three of them.
French Twist deals with themes of infidelity, sexual identity, and redefining traditional gender roles. The film received critical acclaim and swept the 1996 César Awards, winning in all four of its categories: Best Film, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Writing (Original Screenplay).
