Foxcatcher is a biographical drama based on the true story of the Schultz brothers, Mark (Channing Tatum) and Dave (Mark Ruffalo), who won gold medals in wrestling at the 1984 Olympics. The movie explores their complex relationship with John E. du Pont (Steve Carell), a wealthy philanthropist and wrestling enthusiast who invites them to his private training facility, Foxcatcher Farm, to prepare for the 1988 Olympics.
At first, the brothers are excited to work with du Pont, who offers them luxurious living arrangements and access to world-class training facilities. However, as time goes on, du Pont's erratic behavior becomes increasingly alarming. He becomes obsessed with Mark, offering him gifts and privileges in exchange for his loyalty, and begins to manipulate him into distancing himself from Dave. As tension builds between the three men, the movie delves into the psychological forces at play and ultimately leads to a tragic and shocking conclusion.
Foxcatcher received critical acclaim for its intense performances and chilling portrayal of the events that transpired at Foxcatcher Farm. Steve Carell's transformative performance as du Pont earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, and the movie was also nominated for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
