Four Good Days is a 2020 drama film directed by Rodrigo García. The movie stars Glenn Close as Deb, a mother who is struggling to help her daughter, Molly (Mila Kunis), overcome her addiction to heroin. Deb is skeptical when Molly shows up at her doorstep, saying she's ready to try treatment again. After years of being lied to and stolen from by her daughter, Deb wants to believe her, but she knows that methadone or suboxone, the usual treatments for addiction, haven't worked for Molly.
Desperate for a new solution, Deb proposes that Molly try Vivitrol, an opioid antagonist that can block the effects of heroin. However, before Molly can start Vivitrol, she must go through four days of detox. Deb agrees to let Molly stay with her during these four days of detox, but it's far from an easy process. Molly has to fight intense cravings, endure painful withdrawal symptoms, and face the harsh reality of all the harm she's caused her family.
As Molly struggles through each of these four days, Deb wrestles with her own emotions and experiences flashbacks to happier times with her daughter. She also seeks help from therapists and support groups to better understand addiction and what she can do to support her daughter's recovery.
Four Good Days is a powerful portrayal of the complex, heartbreaking journey of overcoming addiction. Close and Kunis deliver standout performances that paint a nuanced picture of the strained relationship between a mother and daughter who are trying to find their way back to each other amidst addiction's grip.
