Fortress of War, also known as Brestskaya Krepost, is a Russian war drama movie directed by Alexander Kott, released in 2010. The film is based on real events from the first days of the German invasion of the Soviet Union during World War II.
The story revolves around the Brest Fortress, a military stronghold located on the border between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany. The film opens on June 22, 1941, the day when the Nazi army launches a surprise attack on the USSR. The garrison of the fortress, commanded by Major Pyotr Gavrilov (played by Aleksey Kopashov) and a political officer named Andrey Kizhevatov (played by Pavel Derevyanko), is taken by surprise, but they quickly rally to defend their position.
Despite being vastly outnumbered and outgunned, the Soviet soldiers fight with incredible bravery and determination. For nine long days, they withstand relentless attacks from the German army, which is determined to capture the fortress at any cost. The Soviet soldiers, led by Major Gavrilov, fight fiercely, and even civilians who are trapped within the fortress walls join in the defense.
