Forever Amber is a 1947 historical drama film based on the novel of the same name by Kathleen Winsor. The movie takes place during the English Civil War and follows the life of Amber St Clair, a beautiful young woman who dreams of becoming a lady of high society, despite her humble beginnings.
Amber is raised by a poor farmer and his wife after her mother dies during childbirth, and she is left orphaned. As a young woman, she falls in love with a local nobleman, but their relationship ends when he marries a wealthy and respectable woman.
Desperate to escape her mundane life, Amber decides to follow a group of cavaliers to London, who promise to help her achieve her dreams. In London, Amber quickly learns the tricks of seduction and uses her beauty to climb the social ladder. She becomes a mistress to several wealthy and influential men, including King Charles II himself, and eventually marries the wealthy Lord Carlton.
However, Amber's past comes back to haunt her when an old lover tries to blackmail her and she is accused of witchcraft. She is forced to flee London and becomes a wanted criminal, but ultimately returns to clear her name.
Forever Amber was considered scandalous when it was first released due to its racy content, and it was initially banned in several countries. Despite the controversy, the film was a box office success and is still remembered as a classic Hollywood drama.
