The movie For Richer or Poorer was released in 1997 and stars Tim Allen as Brad Sexton and Kirstie Alley as Caroline Sexton. Brad and Caroline have been having marital problems for some time, with Brad putting all their money into failed business ventures. When they discover their accountant has embezzled all their money, they go on the run to avoid arrest.
They end up in an Amish community in Pennsylvania and decide to disguise themselves as Amish to avoid detection. Initially, they struggle to adapt to the simple lifestyle, especially as they have to give up their modern luxuries, including their cell phones.
As they begin to settle into Amish life, they discover a sense of peace and community they have never experienced before. Brad and Caroline also keep up their ruse, trying to fit in with the other Amish members. They even take on jobs in the community, with Brad working on a farm and Caroline taking care of the children.
As they spend more time in the community, Brad and Caroline's relationship begins to improve. They rediscover their affection for each other and start to appreciate the simple things in life. However, their true identities are eventually revealed, and they are faced with a choice between returning to their old life or staying with the community they have grown to love.
