Ren MacCormack is a rebellious teenager who loves music and dancing. He is forced to leave his hometown of Boston and move to the small southern town of Bomont with his mother. Upon arrival, Ren is shocked to learn that the town has implemented a ban on loud music and dancing, resulting from a tragic accident involving some teenagers who died in a car accident after attending a dance.
Despite the ban, Ren is determined to continue dancing, and he soon becomes friends with Willard, a country boy who is equally passionate about music. Together, they discover a hidden underground dance scene and start rehearsing for a big dance competition.
Meanwhile, Ren catches the eye of Ariel, the daughter of the town's strict and conservative minister. Ariel is also struggling with her own personal demons, including a troubled relationship with her boyfriend Chuck, who is jealous of Ren's interest in Ariel.
As Ren and Ariel grow closer, tensions in the town rise, culminating in a dramatic confrontation at the town council meeting where Ren and his friends fight for their right to dance. In the end, the ban is lifted, and the town comes alive with music and dancing once again. Ren and Ariel share a tender moment together, illuminated by a brilliant fireworks display in the night sky.
