The movie Food Luck! follows the story of Yoshito, a freelance writer who inherited his family's yakiniku restaurant after his father passed away. His mother Yasue ran the restaurant and they enjoyed a close relationship, with Yoshito frequently seeking attention from his mom. However, their peaceful lives were disrupted when a food critic published false statements about their restaurant, leading to a sharp decline in customers. Yasue worked tirelessly to recover the business, but eventually decided to close the restaurant due to her son's behavior.
Fast forward 18 years and Yoshito is now a lonely freelance writer. He takes on a new assignment with a foodie website, working with editor Takenaka Shizuka. Their first task is to cover yakiniku, which brings back memories of his family's restaurant. Meanwhile, Yoshito hears that his estranged mother has collapsed and he rushes to the hospital to see her.
The movie explores Yoshito's journey of rediscovering his love for yakiniku and his relationship with his mother. Along the way, he learns the truth about the food critic's false statements and how it affected his family. Through his writing and the help of Shizuka, Yoshito sets out to clear his family's name and bring back the spirit of their yakiniku restaurant.
