FM is a 1978 comedy-drama film that follows the story of Q-SKY, a successful radio station in Los Angeles that is run by its eccentric employees. The station's program director, Jeff Dugan (played by Michael Brandon), is the driving force behind Q-SKY's success, as he believes in playing the music he loves and not pandering to corporate interests or commercial success.

However, when a large media corporation acquires Q-SKY, Jeff and his team find themselves at odds with the new management's desire to make the station more profitable through increased advertising and sponsorships. Jeff and his co-workers must navigate the shifting landscape of the radio industry and fight to preserve the station's unique voice and identity.

The film also touches on the personal lives of the station's employees, including Jeff's strained relationship with his girlfriend, Laura (played by Eileen Brennan), and the budding romance between the station's DJ, The Prince of Darkness (played by Cleavon Little), and a news reporter, Maggie (played by Martin Mull).

FM features a classic rock soundtrack, including songs by Linda Ronstadt, Steely Dan, and The Eagles, and is notable for its depiction of the radio industry and the conflicts between artistic integrity and commercial success.
