The main character of the movie is Tripp (played by Patrick Dempsey), a seemingly average man who visits his local bank to deposit a check. However, when he arrives, he finds himself caught in the midst of two separate robberies. The first group of robbers is a team of professional thieves who have meticulously planned their heist. The second group is a duo of bumbling, amateur criminals who have accidentally stumbled into the bank at the same time.

While the robbers make demands and threaten the bank's employees and customers, Tripp becomes increasingly concerned for the safety of Kaitlin (played by Ashley Judd), one of the tellers who Tripp has harbored a secret crush on for years. As events unfold, it becomes clear that the two sets of robbers have very different motivations and goals, and Tripp begins to believe that saving Kaitlin may be the key to resolving the chaos.

As Tripp works to protect Kaitlin and negotiate with the robbers, the situation inside the bank escalates and secrets begin to be revealed. Flypaper is a fast-paced, plot-twisty movie that combines elements of comedy and suspense, and features a cast of familiar faces including Tim Blake Nelson, Mekhi Phifer, and Jeffrey Tambor.
