Flower and Snake: Zero is a Japanese adult erotic thriller film directed by Hajime Hashimoto, released on May 17, 2014. It is a prequel to the 1974 Flower and Snake series. The film stars Aya Sugimoto as Ruri, an oversexed housewife, and newcomer Rin Takanashi as Misaki Amemiya, a young assistant inspector for the Metropolitan Police Department's Community Safety Bureau. Misaki is investigating an illegal website called "Babylon," which caters to the darkest desires of its viewers.
While investigating the site, Misaki falls into a trap and is captured by a group of criminals. She is drugged and transported to a dimly lit room, where she is bound and tortured. Also, Ruri's husband has fallen into debt, and Ruri is taken hostage by the same group of criminals to pay off her husband's debts.
The film explores themes of sexuality, power, and control, as Misaki and Ruri are subjected to various forms of BDSM and sexual abuse. Despite the seemingly gratuitous sex scenes, the film offers a nuanced exploration of the psychological dynamics between abuser and victim.
