Flora & Ulysses is a 2021 American family superhero comedy film directed by Lena Khan and based on the book of the same name by Kate DiCamillo. The film stars Matilda Lawler as Flora Buckman, a quick-witted and imaginative 10-year-old who loves comic books and superheroes.
One day, Flora saves a squirrel from a vacuum cleaner, and she names him Ulysses. To her amazement, she discovers that Ulysses now possesses unique superhero powers, including the ability to fly, communicate with humans, and write poetry. Flora and Ulysses embark on a series of adventures as they try to keep his powers a secret from Flora's mother (played by Alyson Hannigan) and her animal control officer neighbor (played by Ben Schwartz).
Flora's adventures with Ulysses help her reconnect with her estranged father (played by Ben Schwartz) and realize that family and friends are all around her – she just needs to open herself up to them. The film is a heartwarming and funny story about the power of hope, redemption, and love – whether it comes from a superhero squirrel or the people who surround us.
