The young pilot at the center of the story is named Alexey Gushchin. He is a fearless but defiant individual who refuses to blindly follow orders that he deems to be unethical or illogical. During a flight to Asia, the crew receives a distress message from a volcanic island. A research team stationed on the island is in desperate need of medical attention after the volcano unexpectedly erupted, putting their lives at risk. The airline company orders the crew to ignore the situation and continue on their flight, but Gushchin refuses to abandon the stranded researchers to their fate.
With the help of a sympathetic flight attendant and the other co-pilot, Gushchin sets out to rescue the research team on his own. They face numerous obstacles along the way, including tropical storms, turbulent weather, and the harsh terrain of the volcanic island.
