The movie Flamin' Hot is based on the true story of Richard Montañez, who worked as a janitor at Frito Lay's Rancho Cucamonga plant in California. One day, while he was cleaning the plant, he noticed that the regular Cheetos did not have any flavorings that would appeal to the Latino community that made up a large portion of the plant's workforce.
Drawing on his own Mexican American heritage and upbringing, Montañez began experimenting with various spices to create a new flavor for Cheetos. Using his own money, he purchased spices from a local market and created a seasoning mix that he sprinkled on the Cheetos. He called his creation "Flamin' Hot Cheetos."
Montañez initially faced resistance from his superiors, who didn't take him seriously. But he persisted, and eventually convinced Frito Lay executives to give his creation a chance. Flamin' Hot Cheetos became an instant hit, disrupting the food industry and becoming a global pop culture phenomenon.
