Flag Day is a 2021 American drama film directed by and starring Sean Penn. The film is based on Jennifer Vogel's memoir Flim-Flam Man: The True Story of My Father's Counterfeit Life and follows the life of a young woman, Jennifer Vogel (played by Penn's real-life daughter, Dylan Penn), who tries to understand her father, John Vogel (played by Sean Penn), as he leads a life of crime and deceit.

John is a charming and charismatic man who constantly reinvents himself to stay one step ahead of the authorities. He has an extensive criminal background, including counterfeiting, bank robbery, and conning people out of their money. However, he loves his daughter fiercely and is willing to risk everything to provide for her and give her the life that he thinks she deserves.

As Jennifer gets older, she starts to realize the true nature of her father's activities and struggles to come to terms with it. She finds herself torn between her loyalty to her father and her desire for a normal, honest life. Meanwhile, John's past begins to catch up with him, and he must rely on the love and support of his daughter to escape the consequences of his actions.

The film received mixed reviews from critics, with praise for the performances of Sean and Dylan Penn, but criticism for the disjointed storytelling and lack of emotional depth. Overall, Flag Day is an emotional and poignant exploration of the complex relationship between a father and his daughter, and the lengths to which a parent will go to provide for their child.
