Firstborn is a 1984 drama film directed by Michael Apted. The movie follows the story of two brothers, Jake and Brian, whose parents are divorced. As the oldest child, Jake has always taken on the role of man of the house. However, when their mother starts dating a new man named Sam, Jake is forced to share his responsibilities with Sam, who claims to be the new man of the house.
At first, Jake is hesitant to accept Sam as a part of their family. He finds Sam to be loud, pushy, and always trying to make a quick buck. However, as time passes, Jake begins to warm up to Sam, who seems genuinely interested in becoming a father figure to Jake and his brother.
However, Jake's trust in Sam is shattered when he discovers that Sam is involved in illegal activities. Sam is using their house as a front to sell stolen goods, and Jake becomes increasingly worried that his family's safety is at risk. Jake is torn between his loyalty to his mother and his responsibility to keep his family out of harm's way.
As tensions rise, Jake finds himself in the middle of a dangerous situation, where his decisions will have life-altering consequences for his family. The movie explores the themes of loyalty, family, and the struggles that come with growing up.
