First Blood is a 1982 action film directed by Ted Kotcheff and stars Sylvester Stallone as John Rambo, a former Green Beret who is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to his experiences in the Vietnam War. When Rambo arrives in the small town of Hope, Washington to visit an old military friend, he is stopped by the local sheriff, Will Teasle, and accused of vagrancy.
Teasle and his deputies take Rambo to the police station for processing, but Rambo becomes agitated and attempts to escape. He eludes his captors and flees into the nearby mountains, where he sets up camp and begins to evade the police who are pursuing him.
As the manhunt intensifies, Rambo uses his combat skills to outwit and outmatch the law enforcement officials. He attacks their vehicles, disables their radio communications, and sets traps to slow their pursuit. Rambo's actions escalate, and ultimately, several people are injured or killed.
Meanwhile, a former commander of Rambo's, Colonel Trautman, arrives in Hope to try to reason with Rambo and persuade him to surrender. Trautman reveals to Teasle that Rambo is a highly trained, decorated soldier and warns him that his men are not prepared for the kind of fight Rambo is capable of putting up.
Ultimately, Rambo is able to evade the police and make his way back to civilization. He confronts Teasle and demands that he back off, but Teasle refuses, leading to a final, explosive confrontation.
The film was a commercial and critical success, grossing over $125 million worldwide and receiving praise for its portrayal of the psychological toll of war and its effects on soldiers. It spawned several sequels and cemented Stallone's status as an action movie icon.
