Fire Birds is an action-packed movie directed by David Green and released in 1990. It stars Nicolas Cage as Jake Preston, a U.S. Army helicopter pilot who is recruited by the DEA to help take down a powerful drug cartel operating in South America. Jake is one of the best pilots in his unit, but he is haunted by memories of a disastrous mission that claimed the lives of several of his friends.

Jake is sent to a training facility in Arizona where he meets his fellow pilots and begins to learn how to fly the new AH–64 Apache attack helicopter. He also meets Billie Lee Guthrie (Sean Young), a tough and skilled pilot who is equally determined to take down the cartel. Jake and Billie develop a tentative romance as they train together and share their experiences.

Once in South America, Jake and his team face fierce resistance from the cartel, led by Eric Stoller. Stoller is a ruthless leader who is not afraid to use his Scorpion helicopter to take down any aircraft that threatens his operation. Jake and Billie are tasked with taking out Stoller's Scorpion and clearing the way for the rest of the army to attack the cartel's compound.

As they engage in dangerous aerial battles, Jake and Billie must also deal with personal demons and doubts about their abilities. Jake is haunted by his past mistakes and struggles to regain his confidence, while Billie is torn between her duty and her feelings for Jake.

In the end, Jake and Billie manage to take out Stoller's Scorpion and clear the way for the army to attack the cartel's compound. The mission is a success, and Jake and Billie return to the U.S. as heroes.
