The Youngstown Heist: Stealing $30 Million in Contributions

Romance,Crime  United States of America

Finding Steve McQueen is a 2019 crime movie directed by Mark Steven Johnson. The screenplay was written by Ken Hixon and Keith Sharon, and it is based on the true story of the United California Bank robbery in 1972.

The movie tells the story of a gang of thieves, composed of Harry Barber (Travis Fimmel), John Baker (Forest Whitaker), Tom Barber (Jake Weary), and their leader, the charismatic but volatile mastermind, Howard Ratner (William Fichtner). They plan to steal $30 million in illegal contributions that were donated to President Nixon’s re-election campaign.

The plan is risky and complicated. The gang needs to break into a secure facility that houses cash, securities, and jewels in Laguna Niguel, California. The building is guarded by the FBI, and the money is insured by Lloyd's of London.

To give themselves an edge, the gang decides to target the bank on the same day that Steve McQueen's movie, The Getaway, is released in theaters. They believe that the FBI agents will be distracted by the movie's opening weekend, and their security measures will be lax.

The heist initially goes as planned, but things quickly unravel when the gang realizes that they have been outsmarted. They are pursued by FBI agents, led by the paranoid Agent Mark Felt (John Finn), who becomes infamous for his role as "Deep Throat" in the Watergate scandal.

As the gang's situation becomes more desperate, so do their relationships with each other. Finding Steve McQueen is a compelling and fast-paced movie that explores the motivations, loyalties, and betrayals that arise in the midst of a high-stakes heist.
