Unexpected Fortune: A Fateful Game of Poker

Finder's Fee is a 2001 American-Canadian independent thriller film directed by Jeff Probst and starring Ryan Reynolds, James Earl Jones, Matthew Lillard, Erik Palladino, and Robert Forster. The plot revolves around a man named Tepper (played by Reynolds) who discovers a wallet belonging to Avery Phillips (played by Forster) and decides to return it. However, when he calls Avery to arrange to return it, he discovers there is a lottery ticket inside that is a $6 million winner.

Tepper is conflicted about what to do and decides to hold onto the ticket until he can figure out a way to keep the money for himself. Meanwhile, his friends – Fishman (played by Lillard), Bolan (played by Palladino) and Quigley (played by Dash Mihok) – arrive for their weekly poker night. They are all struggling with their own financial problems and see the lottery ticket as a way out.

As the night progresses, tensions rise among the friends as they plot and scheme to try and get their hands on the ticket. Things come to a head when Avery himself shows up at Tepper's door looking for his wallet and the ticket. Tepper has to decide whether to do the right thing and return the ticket or to keep it for himself and risk losing his friends and his conscience.

The film received positive reviews from critics, who praised the performances of the cast and the tightly-woven plot. It was well-received by audiences as well, and has since become a cult classic among fans of indie thrillers.
