Fierce Creatures is a British comedy film released in 1997. It stars an ensemble cast including John Cleese, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Kline, and Michael Palin. The film is a spiritual successor to the hit 1988 film A Fish Called Wanda, which also featured Cleese, Kline, and Palin.
The film follows ex-policeman Rollo Lee, who is tasked with running Marwood Zoo after it is acquired by a wealthy New Zealand businessman. Rollo is under pressure to turn a profit and keep the zoo open, so he enforces a new policy that only allows the most impressive and dangerous animals to remain in the zoo. This leads to many of the zookeepers becoming disgruntled and even going on strike.
Things get even more complicated when a wealthy American heiress named Willa Weston (played by Curtis) arrives and decides to invest in the zoo. She becomes interested in Rollo and starts to meddle in the zoo's affairs. Meanwhile, Kline's character, Vince McCain, is a zoologist who becomes romantically involved with one of the zookeepers, played by Palin.
The film features many comedic set pieces, including a scene where a gorilla escapes from its enclosure and causes chaos in a nearby hotel. There is also a running gag involving a duck that becomes a sort of mascot for the zoo.
Fierce Creatures received mixed reviews upon its release, with some critics praising the cast and humor, while others criticized it as being too similar to A Fish Called Wanda. However, it has since gained a cult following among fans of British comedy.
