Favorite Son follows the story of the four brothers who make up a gospel group called The Shepherd Brothers. Led by their father, Reverend S.J. Shepherd, the group is on the cusp of hitting it big in the gospel music world. They perform in their father's megachurch, with Reverend Shepherd as the lead pastor and head of the congregation.
However, as the group's success grows, tensions begin to rise between the brothers. The eldest, David, struggles with his role as the leader of the group and the pressure put upon him by his father. Meanwhile, J.C., the second oldest, wants to pursue his own unique style of music, putting him at odds with the rest of the group and his father.
The youngest brother, Pete, is having doubts about his faith and feels trapped by his family's expectations. And the fourth brother, Aaron, has secrets of his own that he's afraid to reveal to his family.
As the brothers navigate their personal struggles and the pressure to maintain their image as a perfect Christian family, they begin to realize that they must find a way to balance their passion for music, their love for one another, and their faith.
