The American soldier, named Learoyd, is initially taken captive by the Japanese after witnessing the execution of his comrades. However, he manages to escape and finds himself deep in the Borneo jungle, where he is rescued by a tribe of headhunters.
Learoyd quickly becomes their leader and, with his knowledge of modern technology, he helps them to become a formidable force against their enemies. He also helps modernize their way of life and introduces them to new ideas and concepts.
As Learoyd settles in with his new tribe and becomes accustomed to their culture, a British commando team arrives on a mission to recruit him to help fight the Japanese. Learoyd is initially reluctant to rejoin the war, but eventually agrees to help.
When the Japanese attack the headhunters, Learoyd wages a war of vengeance against them, utilizing the skills he learned during his time in the military. In the end, Learoyd's adopted tribe emerges victorious, and he is left with a decision about whether to stay with them or rejoin civilization.
