Farewell, My Lovely is a 1975 neo-noir film directed by Dick Richards and starring Robert Mitchum as the iconic private detective Philip Marlowe. It is based on Raymond Chandler's novel of the same name and is a remake of the 1944 film Murder, My Sweet.
The film opens with ex-con Moose Malloy (Jack O'Halloran) hiring Marlowe to find his girlfriend Velma, whom he believes has left him for another man. Marlowe takes on the case, which leads him to the seedy underworld of 1940s Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, Marlowe is also investigating the murder of a client, whose wife is the seductive Helen Grayle (Charlotte Rampling). As he delves deeper into the case, Marlowe discovers a web of dark secrets involving Grayle, her wealthy husband, and the stolen jade necklace.
Throughout the film, Marlowe faces danger and betrayal from all sides, but he remains true to his code of honor and determination to uncover the truth.
Farewell, My Lovely is known for its authentic period detail and moody atmosphere, as well as Mitchum's performance as Marlowe, which is often considered one of his best roles. The film received positive reviews for its faithfulness to Chandler's novel and its stylish direction.
