Far from Home is a 1989 independent film directed by Meiert Avis and written by Tommy Lee Wallace. The film stars Matt Frewer, Drew Barrymore, Richard Masur, Karen Austin, and Andras Jones.

The story follows Charlie Cox (Frewer), a single father who is driving cross-country with his daughter Joleen (Barrymore), moving from California to New York, where Charlie has a new job. After running out of gas in the middle of nowhere in Nevada, they end up in a trailer park, where they meet the weird locals and a couple of delinquent teenagers, Jimmy and Pinky.

Joleen tries to fit in with the boys, but Charlie is worried about their intentions. The situation worsens when a series of murders occur in the small town, and Jimmy and Pinky become the prime suspects. Charlie tries to protect Joleen from the danger and get them out of the troublesome town, but they are constantly thwarted by the corrupt and manipulative Sheriff Bill Childers (Masur).

As the suspenseful plot unfolds, Charlie and Joleen uncover dark secrets about the people in the trailer park, including Childers and his wife, Agnes (Austin). They become entangled in a web of deceit and violence that leads to a shocking conclusion.

Far from Home received mixed reviews from critics upon its release but has gained a cult following over the years. It is notable for its atmospheric cinematography, eerie soundtrack, and strong performances from Frewer and Barrymore. It also deals with themes of family, loneliness, and the isolation of small towns.
