Raging Against Society's Injustices

Crime,Drama,Thriller  United States of America

As Foster progresses on his journey, he encounters a number of individuals and obstacles that he feels are representative of the things he despises about society. He confronts a group of Latino gang members who are terrorizing a fast food restaurant, then he intimidates and assaults a neo-Nazi trying to steal his briefcase.

As Foster continues through Los Angeles, he has several encounters with police officers who are beginning to realize the magnitude of his destruction. Meanwhile, the LAPD is conducting a manhunt for him, and as Foster closes in on his destination, he becomes more disillusioned and increasingly delusional.

The climax of the film occurs when Foster finally reaches his ex-wife's home, only to discover that she has remarried and moved on with her life. In his rage, he pulls out a weapon and threatens his ex-wife and her new husband. However, the police arrive and, after a tense standoff, shoot and kill Foster in front of his daughter.

The film, directed by Joel Schumacher and starring Michael Douglas as Foster, was controversial upon its release in 1993 for its portrayal of a white man taking violent action against people of color and other marginalized groups.
