Extracurricular Activities is a 2019 dark comedy film directed by Jay Lowi and written by Bob Sáenz. The film follows Reagan Collins, a high school student who maintains a façade of being an model student while secretly running a business that involves arranging “accidents” for his classmates’ parents, in order to get them out of paying for college tuition. Reagan is portrayed by actor Colin Ford, who has also appeared in films like We Bought a Zoo and television series like Supernatural and Under the Dome.
Although Reagan initially feels invincible as he orchestrates the downfall of his classmates’ parents, he begins to realize the consequences of his actions as seasoned police detective Cliff Dawkins, played by Timothy Simons of Veep fame, starts putting the pieces together. Reagan also has to deal with the aftermath of falling in love with a new girl in school, played by Ellie Bamber.
The film received mixed reviews upon its release, with some critics praising its dark humor and clever plot twists, while others criticized its lack of originality and uneven execution. Despite this, the film has gained a cult following since its release, particularly among fans of offbeat, black comedies.
