Everybody in Our Family is a Romanian drama-comedy film that was released in 2012. The movie is directed by Radu Jude and stars Serban Pavlu as Marius, Sofia Nicolaescu as Sofia, and Mihaela Sirbu as Marius' ex-wife, Otilia.
The story begins with Marius arriving at his ex-wife's apartment to take his daughter Sofia on a holiday. However, he is informed that Sofia has a fever and cannot leave. Marius becomes irate and insists on taking Sofia with him, which sparks a heated argument between him and Otilia. In the chaos that follows, Marius storms out with Sofia and Otilia follows them to a nearby park, where they continue to argue.
As the day progresses, Marius becomes increasingly desperate to spend time with Sofia and begins to act erratically. The situation escalates when Marius assaults Otilia's new boyfriend and is subsequently arrested by the police. Despite this setback, Marius refuses to give up on his plans and hatches a series of elaborate schemes to get Sofia back in his custody.
As the situation spins out of control, Marius finds unexpected allies in his family members who band together to help him. The family's antics, which include everything from singing childish songs to causing chaos in a hospital waiting room, provide moments of hilarious and heartwarming relief amidst the tension. Ultimately, Marius and Otilia are forced to confront their complicated relationship and the effect it has on Sofia.
Everybody in Our Family is a thought-provoking exploration of the complexities of family dynamics and the blurred lines between love and obsession. It received critical acclaim and numerous awards, including the Best Film Award at both the Transilvania International Film Festival and the Gopo Awards.
