Every Which Way But Loose is a 1978 American comedy film directed by James Fargo. The film stars Clint Eastwood as Philo Beddoe, a truck driver who spends his free time brawling in bars with his pet orangutan, Clyde. Philo and Clyde live a simple life, but things take a turn when Philo falls in love with a country singer named Lynn Halsey-Taylor, played by Sondra Locke.

Lynn is a free-spirited woman who enjoys playing mind games with Philo. She insists that they're just friends, but Philo can't help but fall for her. Despite Clyde's disapproval, Philo motivates himself to become a better person to try and win her heart.

Meanwhile, a biker gang led by Cholla, played by John Quaden, and the legendary brawler Tank Murdock, played by William Smith, are looking for a big payday. Philo ends up being in the wrong place at the wrong time and finds himself in the middle of their schemes.

As Philo and Clyde's journey with Lynn takes them all over the American Southwest, they continue to run into trouble in the form of the bikers and Tank Murdock. Philo is determined to win Lynn's heart and protect his friend, Clyde, from harm.

The film features a variety of memorable scenes, including a bar fight between Philo and Tank Murdock, a wild car chase across a golf course, and a final showdown between Philo and the bikers.

Every Which Way But Loose was a commercial success and remains a cult classic, with Eastwood's performance and the chemistry between him and Locke being particularly praised. The film also spawned a sequel, Any Which Way You Can, which was released in 1980.
