Drama,Romance  South Korea

The movie Eungyo, also known as A Muse, is a South Korean drama film released in 2012. It was directed by Jung Ji-woo and based on a novel by Park Bum-shin.

The story revolves around Lee Jeok-yo, a renowned poet played by Park Hae-il, who becomes infatuated with Eun-gyo, played by Kim Go-eun, a high school girl who is also a talented writer. Lee is a mentor to Seo Ji-woo, played by Kim Mu-yeol, who is a struggling novelist in his thirties. Seo also falls in love with Eun-gyo after meeting her through Lee.

Despite the large age gap between Lee and Eun-gyo, he becomes increasingly obsessed with her and begins to neglect his career and his relationship with Seo. As his feelings for Eun-gyo become more intense, Lee struggles with guilt and shame over his attraction to a teenage girl. Meanwhile, Seo also becomes fixated on Eun-gyo and begins to feel a sense of rivalry with Lee.

As the three characters become more entangled in their emotions, their relationships begin to unravel. Eun-gyo, who is initially flattered by the attention from both men, eventually becomes disillusioned and confused by their conflicting feelings. In the end, the film explores themes of love, desire, and the destructive consequences of obsession.

Eungyo received critical acclaim for its powerful performances and nuanced exploration of taboo themes. It won several awards at film festivals around the world, including Best Director at the Sitges Film Festival and Best Actress at the Blue Dragon Film Awards. However, it also sparked controversy for its depiction of a romantic relationship between an older man and a teenage girl.
