Escape from Tomorrow is an independent horror film shot in secret at Disneyland and Disney World without the permission or knowledge of the Walt Disney Company. The film follows Jim, an unemployed father on a family vacation at Disneyland with his wife and two children. After being informed that he has just been laid off, Jim becomes increasingly unstable and begins to see sinister and fantastical things happening around him at the park.
He becomes obsessed with two young French girls he meets while on a ride and begins to follow them around the park. Jim experiences a surreal and macabre journey through Disneyland, encountering strange and disturbing imagery, including a mysterious man in a suit, a group of cult-like masked figures and an evil princess.
As Jim's sanity deteriorates, he becomes more and more consumed by the dark forces at work in the park, ultimately leading to a climactic battle for his soul. The film is a commentary on the commodification of childhood, Disney's influence on popular culture and the declining state of the American Dream. The film was released in 2013 to mixed reviews, with some critic praising its dark humor and surreal imagery, while others found it to be a controversial dumpster fire.
