Envy

Comedy  United States of America

Envy is a comedy film directed by Barry Levinson and released in 2004. The film follows the lives of two best friends, Tim Dingman (played by Ben Stiller) and Nick Vanderpark (played by Jack Black). Tim and Nick are both working-class men who dream of making it big, but only Nick succeeds, inventing a revolutionary product that makes him extremely wealthy.

As Nick's success grows, Tim becomes increasingly envious of him, feeling left behind and overshadowed. Tim's jealousy reaches a breaking point when Nick builds a mansion next door to Tim's modest home and flaunts his wealth in front of Tim and his family.

As Tim's envy consumes him, he becomes increasingly irrational, and his behavior strains his friendship with Nick. Tim eventually plots to steal Nick's invention, the ultimate spray, which he believes will give him the same success as Nick.

The situation escalates when Tim's wife, Debbie (played by Rachel Weisz), sees the extent of Tim's obsession and is disgusted by it. As Tim's plan to steal the invention spirals out of control, he must confront the consequences of his actions and choose whether to salvage his friendship or prioritize his own selfish desires.

Envy is a hilarious and heartwarming story that explores the dangers of letting jealousy consume you and the importance of friendship and loyalty.
