End of Days is a 1999 action horror film directed by Peter Hyams and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Gabriel Byrne, and Robin Tunney. The film takes place during the last few days of 1999, and follows Jericho Cane, a retired police officer turned security guard who is tasked with protecting Christine York, a young woman who has been chosen by the Devil to bear his child and bring forth the end of days.
As the Devil, inhabiting the body of a wealthy businessman named Gabriel, sets out to capture Christine, Jericho and his allies must fight to keep her safe and prevent the apocalypse from coming to pass. Along the way, they encounter a mysterious priest, played by Rod Steiger, who may hold the key to defeating the Devil once and for all.
End of Days features intense action set pieces, supernatural horror elements, and a healthy dose of religious symbolism and mythology. It was a box office success upon its release, though critics gave the film mixed reviews.
The film has since become a cult classic among fans of Schwarzenegger and the action-horror genre, and is notable for featuring one of the actor's more dramatic and emotionally complex performances.
