Encino Man, also known as California Man in the UK, is a 1992 comedy film directed by Les Mayfield. The movie stars Sean Astin as Dave, Pauly Shore as Stoney, and Brendan Fraser as the titular character, Link.
Stoney and Dave are two high school outcasts who live in Encino, California. One day, while digging up a pool in Dave's backyard, they accidentally unearth a frozen caveman. After thawing him out, they give him the name "Link" and introduce him to modern-day life in California.
Link immediately becomes popular at school because of his unique appearance and carefree attitude. He also helps Stoney and Dave win the affections of their crushes, Robyn and Ella, respectively. However, Link's presence causes chaos and destruction wherever he goes, ultimately leading to a showdown at a school dance where he accidentally sets the gym on fire.
Despite the havoc he causes, Stoney and Dave ultimately realize that Link is more than just a wild card, he is a friend who has changed their lives for the better. The film ends with Link being adopted by a wealthy businessman who sees the potential for a lucrative business venture centered around the caveman.
