Buddy, played by Will Ferrell, is a human who was raised as an elf in the North Pole. He realizes that he is different from the other elves when he grows to be much taller and less adept at making toys. When Buddy learns that he is actually human and that his biological father is in New York City, he sets off on a journey to find him. Buddy's journey is filled with challenges including navigating the bustling city and facing rejection from his biological father, who is initially skeptical of his claim to be his son. Along the way, Buddy spreads Christmas cheer and wins the hearts of those around him. He falls in love with a coworker at a department store, played by Zooey Deschanel, and saves her boss from bankruptcy by reviving the spirit of Christmas within him. Finally, Buddy's biological father realizes his mistake and accepts him as his son, celebrating Christmas together with their newfound family. Elf has become a beloved Christmas classic for its heartwarming message and comedic performances.
