The movie stars Robert Blake as John Wintergreen, the motorcycle cop who dreams of becoming a detective in the Homicide division. When a hermit is found murdered in the desert, Wintergreen sees it as his chance to prove himself. However, as he investigates the case, he begins to realize that the people he thought he knew, including his fellow officers and the hermit's hippie friends, may not be who he thought they were.
Wintergreen's pursuit of the truth leads him down a dark path of corruption and violence, and he is forced to confront his own moral code as well as the realities of the justice system. Meanwhile, Wintergreen's personal life becomes entangled with that of a free-spirited artist named Jolene, played by Jeannine Riley.
The film features stunning cinematography of the Arizona landscape, as well as a memorable soundtrack by composer James William Guercio. Electra Glide in Blue is a poignant exploration of the American Dream and the cost of pursuing it. In the end, Wintergreen returns to the solitude of the desert, having learned the hard lessons of his journey.
