The young man, named Eric Roth (played by Luke Grimes), travels to El Camino in search of his biological father, who he believes owns a local bar. When he arrives, he finds the bar closed for Christmas and breaks in to search for his father. However, he is caught by the police and taken to the local liquor store, which is also closed for the holiday.
Inside the liquor store, Eric is joined by five strangers: a drunkard named Jim (played by Vincent D'Onofrio), a single mother named Kate (played by Dax Shepard), an off-duty cop named Billy (played by Emilio Rivera), the store clerk Ruby (played by Jessica Alba), and a would-be thief named Asher (played by Tim Allen).
As they wait for the police to arrive and sort out the situation, tensions rise among the group, as they all have their own personal struggles and secrets. Eric also reveals his search for his father to the group, leading to unexpected connections and revelations.
